Exceptional (H, A, A-)
Demonstrates a willingness and ability to explore new media, take risks and sustain a thoughtful, extended investigation. Participates in critiques and reflects on their purpose and uses either in class or on their blog. Able to develop and express ideas in a blog though the reflexive cycle. Blog evidences strong, personal engagement with new media and ideas. Project ideas and Throughlines demonstrate understanding of the media, are highly motivating and significantly promote students’ personal engagement. Able to create a project that organizes a learning experience for the student, demonstrates knowledge and understanding of new media, and connects to the theme of identity. Able to present the project in a well-managed, articulate, organized, visually engaging, positive manner. The experience motivates the students and creates interest.
Above Average (B+, B, B-)
Able to explore new media and sustain an extended investigation of a selected medium. Participates in critiques. Able to develop and express ideas in a blog though the reflexive cycle. Blog evidences engagement with new media and ideas. Project ideas and Throughlines demonstrate understanding of media, are somewhat motivating and attempt to promote students’ personal engagement. Able to create a project that organizes a learning experience for the student, demonstrates knowledge of new media, and connects to the identity theme, but the theme lacks interest for the audience. Able to present project in a well-managed, articulate, organized, visually interesting positive manner.
Average (C = not passing)
Able to explore new media and sustains investigation, but not always willingly or thoughtfully. Sporadically participates in critiques. Able to develop and express ideas in a blog, but evidence of the reflexive cycle was not evident. Blog entries lacked engagement with new media and ideas. Project ideas and Throughlines demonstrate a basic understanding of media, but are not motivating and do not promote students’ personal engagement. Able to create a project, the learning experience lacks organization. New media is only cursorily understood and the identity theme is weak. Able to present the project, but there were management difficulties. Problems may include poor articulation, lack of organization and/or negative attitude.
Incomplete
A temporary designation indicating that at least 80% of the course requirements have been met and that the remaining course requirements are expected to be completed, and a permanent designation issued by the subsequent mid-semester. The student is responsible for having an Individual Grade Sheet completed by the appropriate faculty member and filed with the Registrar. If the student does not complete the course work, a non-passing grade will be issued.
